Thomas R. Evans
Thomas Evans

From 2004 through 2013, Tom Evans was the President and Chief Executive Officer of Bankrate, Inc., an internet publisher of consumer financial content and rate information. In 2009, Mr. Evans took the company through a $580 million take-private transaction with Apax Partners, a London-based private equity firm. Less than two years later, Evans led the company through a $1.5 billion Initial Public Offering. During his tenure at Bankrate, the company’s revenues grew by over 14X and pre-tax profit grew by over 20X. Mr. Evans also served on the company’s Board of Directors before retiring as CEO and from the board at the end of 2013. In 2014 and 2015 Mr. Evans served as an Advisor to the Board of Bankrate.

From 1999 to 2003, Mr. Evans served as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Official Payments Corp., an internet company specializing in processing consumer credit card payments for government taxes, fees and fines online. During his tenure there, Mr. Evans led the company through its 1999 IPO and a sale of the company to Tier Technologies in 2003.

From March 1998 to June 1999, Mr. Evans was President and Chief Executive Officer of GeoCities Inc., a community of personal Websites on the Internet. In 1998, Mr. Evans led the company through its IPO and sold the company in 1999 to Yahoo! Inc. for $4.6 billion.

Prior to his internet experience, Mr. Evans was a 20 year veteran of the magazine business. From January 1991 to February 1998, Mr. Evans was President and Publisher of U.S. News & World Report. In addition to his duties at U.S. News & World Report, Mr. Evans served as President of The Atlantic Monthly (1996 – 1998) and as President and Publisher of Fast Company (1995 – 1998), a magazine launched in 1995.

Mr. Evans also serves as a director of Shutterstock, Inc. Mr. Evans received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Arizona State University.

Mr. Evans and his family live in Bronxville, New York.

George D. Bell
George Bell

George is a 30-year veteran of growing and investing in consumer businesses.

He has been CEO of Jumptap – mobile ad tech, sold to Millennial Media/AOL; CEO of Upromise – loyalty, helping families save for college, sold to Sallie Mae; Chair.CEO of Excite@Home (NASDAQ: ATHM); CEO of Excite (NASDAQ: XCIT) which he grew and took public as one of the web’s largest and first search engines; and former Board Chairman, Harris Interactive (NASDQ: HPOL), sold to Nielsen.

He has been a Managing Director and an Executive in Residence with General Catalyst Partners, a venture and private equity firm.

Prior to the internet, George won four Emmy Awards as a producer and writer of adventure and wildlife documentaries, and started the Outdoor Life, later Versus, Network, which is now NBC Sports Network.

Currently, George is Board Chair, Visible Measures, a video ad and measurement platform; Board Chair, Place IQ, a location data company working across media and enterprise; Board Member, John Wiley and Sons (NYSE: JW-A), a large publisher and education software provider; Board Member, Coach Up, a marketplace for 1:1 sports coaching; and an angel investor in several early stage companies.

George has won the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award for California and New England.  He is a national board member, The Trust for Public Land; a member of MA Gov. Baker’s Opioid Task Force; Gov. appointed Board Member, MA Historical Commission; Board Member, Squash Busters, MA.  George graduated from Harvard College ’80 and was an All-American squash player. 

Mark Britto
Mark Britto

A Silicon Valley technology entrepreneur and investor, Mark Britto has overseen the growth and development of numerous disruptive companies.  He brings to the Angie’s List board of directors more than 20 years of experience and expertise in the areas of e-commerce, financial technology (fintech), data mining and analytics, product/software development and risk management.

Mr. Britto currently serves as Executive Chairman of Boku, Inc., a mobile online payments company he founded in 2009.  Under his leadership, Boku has grown to become the leading global mobile payments network servicing 50 countries through more than 200 carrier partners. 

Prior to founding Boku, Mr. Britto served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Ingenio Inc., a service marketplace and performance advertising company, which he led until it was acquired by AT&T.  Prior to Ingenio, Mr. Britto served as Senior Vice President of Worldwide Services and Sales at, where he was responsible for its landmark deals with national brands. Mr. Britto’s first technology start-up,, was bought by in 1999 and served as the primary backbone of Amazon’s global payments platform.  Mr. Britto began his career in senior credit and risk management roles at leading national banks FirstUSA and Bank of America.  Mr. Britto holds a Bachelor of Science in Operations Research and a Master of Science in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research, both from the University of California, Berkeley.

Mr. Britto, an independent director, has served on the Angie’s List board since September 2011.  He is Chair of the Compensation Committee.

Scott A. Durchslag
Scott Durchslag

Scott Durchslag has served as our President and Chief Executive Officer and member of the company’s Board of Directors since September 2015.  Mr. Durchslag most recently served as President, Global e-Commerce and Marketing at Best Buy.  In that role, he led the transformation of the company’s global e-commerce business and was responsible for a $3 billion P&L.  He also had responsibility for developing Best Buy’s retail multichannel experience, the My Best Buy credit card/loyalty program and corporate-wide marketing initiatives.  Prior to joining Best Buy, Mr. Durchslag was President of Expedia Worldwide, a leading global online travel agency where he was responsible for managing the overall strategy, product development, marketing and operations of its 27 sites around the world with a focus on increasing Expedia’s global footprint and driving innovation to gain share.  Previously, Mr. Durchslag was Chief Operating Officer at Skype Global S.a r.1., a worldwide provider of software and mobile communications services.  Before joining Skype, Mr. Durchslag joined Motorola in 2002 and was on the management team of its mobile devices business.  Among his roles, Mr. Durchslag was Corporate Vice-President of Global Product & Experience Invention, where he led product strategy, innovation, intellectual property, product design, user interfaces, consumer experiences (music, video, imaging, productivity and mobile internet), partnerships, product marketing and customer care.  At Motorola, he was also part of the team that enabled Motorola’s market share to double, launched its then leading RAZR product and created strategic partnerships with other technology leaders, including Google and Microsoft.  Earlier, Mr. Durchslag worked at software startups in Silicon Valley, one of which was Grand Central Networks which was later purchased by Google.  A former McKinsey & Company partner, Mr. Durchslag has more than 20 years in the technology industry and has served technology clients in the U.S., Greater China and South Asia.  He is one of the youngest partners ever elected at McKinsey, achieving this distinction in only four years.  He graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Chicago and received his MBA from Harvard Business School.

Angela Hicks Bowman
Angela R. Hicks Bowman, who goes by Angie Hicks, is the namesake and co-founder of Angie’s List.  She has served as the Company’s Chief Marketing Officer since 2000 and served as the Company’s President and as a director from 1995 until 1998, when she took a leave of absence to obtain a Master of Business Administration from Harvard University.  She brings to the Angie’s List board a record of leadership and execution, an entrepreneurial spirit, and a unique perspective as the public face of Angie’s List.
During her tenure, Angie’s List has transformed from a small, private, newsletter-inspired enterprise into the leading e-commerce platform in the $400 billion home services marketplace.  The Company has grown from its launch in 1995 to now facilitate transactions between more than three million consumers nationwide and highly-rated service providers in 720 categories of service.  In addition to contributing to this growth, Ms. Hick’s work and persona have helped to establish Angie’s List as one of the most trusted and recognized brands in the consumer industry.

Ms. Hicks has received multiple accolades for her accomplishments, including the being named Distinguished Alumni for Management and Entrepreneurship by DePauw University and receiving the Indiana Commission for Women Torchbearer Award.  Indiana Business Journal also named her to its Women of Influence and 40 Under 40 lists.  Ms. Hicks is a co-founder and past member of the Board of Directors of The Governor Bob Orr Indiana Entrepreneurial Fellowship Program, which provides a two-year fellowship at an Indianapolis-area business to graduates of Indiana colleges and universities or Indiana residents. From 2014—2016, she served on the Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. In addition to her MBA from Harvard, Ms. Hicks holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from DePauw University.

Ms. Hicks has served on the Angie’s List board of directors since March 2013. 

Michael S. Maurer
Michael Maurer

Michael S. Maurer brings to Angie’s List’s board of directors significant media, advertising, financial, accounting and legal expertise, as well as a track record of growing businesses through diverse and competitive landscapes.

Mr. Maurer serves as Chairman of IBJ Media Corporation, a publishing company which owns The Indianapolis Business Journal, Court and Commercial Record, and The Indiana Lawyer. Mr. Maurer also co-founded The National Bank of Indianapolis in 1993 and has served as the bank’s Chairman since that time.  In 2005, Mr. Maurer was named President of the Indiana Economic Development Corporation and in 2006 was named Indiana Secretary of Commerce by Governor Mitch Daniels.

Mr. Maurer graduated from the University of Colorado with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting, received his Doctor of Jurisprudence from Indiana University Law School and is a Certified Public Accountant.

Mr. Maurer, an independent director, has served on the Angie’s List board since February 2012.  He is Chair of the Nominating and Governance Committee and a member of he Audit Committee.

David B. Mullen
David Mullen

David B. Mullen brings to the Angie’s List board of directors over 25 years of executive leadership experience as well as deep operating, finance and accounting expertise having served as a Chief Financial Officer, Audit Committee Chair and board member of other leading, high-growth, publicly traded technology companies.  He also brings significant experience with mergers and acquisitions having acquired, merged, sold or executed strategic partnerships with more than 25 companies during the course of his career.  

Mr. Mullen most recently served as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of NAVTEQ Corporation, a leading global provider of comprehensive digital map information for automotive navigation systems, mobile navigation devices, Internet-based mapping applications and government and business solutions.  NAVTEQ was acquired by Nokia in 2008.  As Chief Financial Officer of NAVTEQ, Mr. Mullen oversaw double-digit organic growth in revenue and profitability in each of the eight years he was there.

Prior to NAVTEQ, Mr. Mullen served as Chief Financial Officer of Allscripts Healthcare Solutions, Inc., a leader in healthcare information technology solutions.  Previously, Mr. Mullen served as Chief Financial Officer of Enterprise Systems Inc., a health-care information services company.  Earlier in his career, Mr. Mullen served as Chief Financial Officer of CCC Information Services Inc., the nation’s leading provider of advanced software, workflow tools, and enabling technologies to automotive collision repairers, parts suppliers, and property/casualty insurance carriers, where he later also served as Vice Chairman. 

Mr. Mullen currently serves on the board of directors and as Audit Committee Chair of Mattersight Corporation, a provider of SaaS-based enterprise behavioral analytics software.  He previously served as a director, Audit Committee Chair, and member of the Compensation Committee of Avid Technology, Inc., the world’s leading provider of audio and video technology for media organizations and independent professionals.  Mr. Mullen holds a Bachelor of Arts from Princeton University, a Master of Business Administration from The Wharton School University of Pennsylvania and is a Certified Public Accountant.

Mr. Mullen, an independent director, has served on Angie’s List board since June of 2014.  He is Chair of the Audit Committee.

Michael D. Sands
Michael Sands

Mike Sands is CEO and a co-founder at Signal, a global leader in real-time, cross-channel marketing technology.  At Signal, Mr. Sands has been recognized with several honors, including the 2015 EY Entrepreneur of the Year award and inclusion on the 2013 Crain’s Tech 50 list of the top technology leaders in Chicago.  He was also named to the Techweek 100 list of the most influential technology leaders in Chicago.  The company was recognized by the 2015 Inc. 5000 as the third-fastest growing software company in the country (51st-fastest growing company overall) and honored as the 11th fastest-growing company in North America on Deloitte’s 2015 Technology Fast 500.  Signal was recognized as a Red Herring 100 North America recipient and received World Business Chicago's inaugural Global Innovator Award.

Prior to joining Signal, Mr. Sands was part of the original Orbitz management team and held positions including CMO and COO.  While at Orbitz, he helped take the business from startup to IPO, then through two acquisitions (Cendant and Blackstone). 

After Orbitz, Mr. Sands joined The Pritzker Group as a partner on their private equity team.  He has also held management roles at General Motors Corporation and Leo Burnett.  His work at General Motors led him to be named a “Marketer of the Next Generation” by Brandweek magazine. 

Mr. Sands holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Communications from Northwestern University and a Masters in Management degree from the J.L. Kellogg School of Management.  He sits on the Signal board.  Other current and prior board experience includes (ticker UBET) sold to Churchill Downs, LeisureLink a privately held “platform as a service” play in the vacation rental industry and local Chicago start-ups SIM Partners and ParkWhiz.

Mr. Sands lives in Chicago with his wife and two daughters.

Mr. Sands, an independent director, has served on the Angie’s List board since March 2016.  He is a member of the Nominating and Corporate Governance Committee.

H. Eric Semler
H. Eric Semler

Mr. Semler is the Founder and President of TCS Capital Management, an investment fund focused on media, technology and communications companies.  He founded TCS in 2001, and within several years it was one of the largest independent funds focused on media and communications equities.  Since its inception in 2001, the flagship TCS Global Equity Fund has generated returns that are more than double the returns of the S&P 500 Index and MSCI World Index over the same time period.  Mr. Semler has been an investor in Angie’s List since 2011 - before it became a public company.  He began his career as a journalist working for The New York Times in New York and for the Moscow News in Russia.  Mr. Semler is the co-founder and chairman of the nonprofit Bronx Baseball Dreams organization, and is a director for the Van Cortlandt Park Conservancy.  He has served on the boards of,, Classic Media, Channel 13/WNET TV, WNYC Radio, Wave Hill and the Dwight School.  Mr. Semler has co-authored two books published by Harper Collins:  The Language of Nuclear War, and The Harper Collins Businessman’s Guide to Moscow.  Originally from Portland, Oregon, Mr. Semler received a B.A. from Dartmouth College, and a J.D. and M.B.A. from Harvard University.

Susan Thronson
Susan Thronson

Susan Thronson brings to the Angie’s List board of directors nearly 30 years of experience developing and executing marketing and brand-building strategies for some of the world’s most renowned global consumer and hospitality brands, including The Ritz-Carlton, Marriott Hotels, Renaissance, Autograph Collection, Courtyard and Residence Inn.

Ms. Thronson most recently served as Senior Vice President of Global Marketing for Marriott International, Inc.  During her nearly 24-year tenure at Marriott, Ms. Thronson held a variety of progressive marketing management positions, including Senior Vice President, International Marketing, and Vice President, International Brand & Marketing Operations. 

At Marriott, Ms. Thronson led the worldwide integrated marketing strategy and execution for the Company and its portfolio of hotel brands, which were spread across six continents and in diverse stages of development: from brand launches to dominant global brand leaders.  Her work spanned marketing strategy, new market entry, advertising, social media, strategic alliances, digital commerce, customer relationship management and engagement, and customer segment marketing.  She is credited for the successful evolution of the Marriott Rewards program into a platform of actionable consumer knowledge that helped to double revenue (over 50% of all rooms sold) and membership (43 million).  Her work resulted in Marriott Rewards being named as the consecutive winner of the Freddie’s Awards Hotel Program of the Year from 2007 to 2013.

Previous to her roles with Marriott, Ms. Thronson served as an Account Supervisor at McCann-Erickson Worldwide, one of the world’s largest advertising agency networks, overseeing such brands as CENTURY21 Real Estate and Hilton Hotels.

In recognition of her achievements, Ms. Thronson was named as “Advertising Working Mother of the Year” by the Advertising Women of New York and Working Mother magazine in 2013.  She has been sought as a guest lecturer on global marketing at the University of California, Irvine and the University of Maryland for their respective Executive MBA programs. 

Ms. Thronson currently serves on the board of directors of Sonic Corp., the nation’s largest drive-in restaurant chain, where she also serves on the Compensation Committee.  In addition, she holds a member-elected seat on the board of directors of PFLAG National, the nation’s largest LGBTQ family and ally organization, where she also serves as Secretary.  She is a member of WomenCorporateDirectors, the only global membership organization and community of women corporate directors.

Ms. Thronson is a National Association of Corporate Directors Governance Fellow.  She has demonstrated her commitment to boardroom excellence by completing the NACD’s comprehensive program of study for directors.   She supplements her skill sets through ongoing engagement with the director community and access to leading practices. 

She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from the University of Nevada-Reno where she was recognized as a Distinguished Alumna in 2014.

Ms. Thronson, an independent director, has served on the Angie’s List board since November 2012.  She is a member of the Audit and Compensation committees.
